Maths project - Virtown
We're currently building a town as part of a maths project. The project will involve lots of different strands from the maths curriculum from calculating areas for building the houses to addition, multiplication and division for trying to figure out the best deal to supply the town with water. Click the button below to have a look at our town. We hope the town will grow over the coming months.

fifth class 2018
We've been learning to code with the BBC MicroBit after school on a Wednesday for the last number of weeks. For the last two weeks we had been working on coding and building an electric guitar. The girls worked with their partners and coded the MicroBit and then designed and built the guitar from scrap materials. In the end, we had twelve guitars that could be used to play classics like "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and "Happy Birthday."
Our Writing published
We had been working hard on our writing during the first term and recently got our first book, "Do You Know...???", published on www.amazon.co.uk. We compiled a collection of reports on animals during that time and everyone was very proud and excited to see their work published in a professionally made book. We now officially have twenty-eight published authors! Anyone who wants to buy our book on amazon can click on the button below to go directly to the page.
Well done to all the girls who produced and performed the play for our class before the mid-term break. The play was based on the story of Romeo and Juliet and there was great performances backed up with music from the band. The whole class really enjoyed watching! Well done girls!
We recently got a box full of microscopes on loan from the University of Limerick. We were able to examine lots of different samples from the texture of tissue to grass samples to (every groups' favourite) a dead wasp. We learned a lot about using microscopes and how things can look completely different at the microscopic level. Big thanks to UL.
Well done to all the girls who took part in the county running championships held in Thurles Croke Athletic Club. All the girls ran extremely well and we had a fantastic day out. Third and Fourth class took home some medals. Thanks to the local club, Newport Athletics Club, and all those involved who've done such great work training the girls over the years. Well done to the event organisers for running what was a huge and very successful event.
eNGLISH - Report Writing
The girls have been working hard on their reports during September and October. We learned a lot about using the internet to search for relevant information, skimming and scanning text and taking notes. Our reports then went through three drafts with corrections to be made each time. Finally, we learned how to use Google Docs so we could type our reports up and publish them as part of an ebook. The final book is available below.
